The Climb
Register

A summit register is the book you sign at the top of a mountain. This is the same idea, kept afterwards: an open record of what actually happens on Kilimanjaro, written by the people it happened to.

I found it incredibly difficult to get all of this info in one place, so I’m writing this to help others.

Every field is a fact about your week, not an opinion about a company. We do not collect operator names, we do not host reviews, and nothing here is sponsored.

02Why this
exists

The last honest numbers are twenty years old

There is exactly one independently published set of Kilimanjaro summit statistics: park authority figures from 2006, showing success rising from 27% on five-day itineraries to 85% on eight-day ones. Nothing has been published since. Every modern figure you will read — the 95%, the 98.5% — comes from a company reporting on its own clients, unaudited.

That gap is fillable, but not by anyone selling climbs. It needs a lot of ordinary climbers each spending a minute on the way home.

We will not publish a single statistic until the register holds enough entries for the numbers to mean something. Until then you will only ever see the count. Percentages drawn from forty entries would be noise dressed as evidence, which is the exact problem this is meant to solve.

When it is ready, the method, the sample size and the raw anonymised data go up alongside the figures — so anyone can check the working, including the operators it makes look good.

03What we
never ask

No names, no reviews, no sponsorship

The register records facts about climbs, never opinions about companies. There is no field for your operator and any company name in the free-text box is removed before anything is published. Two reasons, both practical: an unmoderated review board becomes a place for competitors to attack each other, and the moment this site takes a position on a business it stops being neutral about the data.

Nothing you enter is tied to an identity. No account, no email, no tracking. The name field is optional and initials are fine.

04Something
to mark it

You did the hard part months ago

We make Kilimanjaro stickers and prints, including the Uhuru Peak signboard. It is the only thing we sell, and it is why this register has no sponsor, no advertising and no email capture.
